Ipsos Tambor Participated as a Partner in an Important Conference on the Financial Crisis

 13. 12. 2008, 08:00

The economy is headed for a decline, but people are not losing their optimism.

Over 450 participants gathered on the 9th of December 2008 at the TOP HOTEL Praha for the 3rd International Forum of Zlatá Koruna, titled “The World in Financial Crisis: End of Carefree Times?”. Leading economists and financial experts from both the Czech Republic and abroad presented their views of the current situation.

Ipsos Tambor was one of the partners of this conference and carried out an exclusive survey on the reaction of the Czech public to the financial crisis. The survey was conducted from November 24th to 28th and included 500 respondents between the ages of 18 and 70 (a representative sample of the Czech population). Some of the results surprised not only those who conducted the survey, but even the event organizer.

When asked to forecast economic conditions in the Czech Republic in the next year, over half of the respondents (56%) answered that they will be worse, 27% of respondents think that they will stay the same and only 14% think that conditions will improve.

Despite the fact that economic conditions are expected to get worse, people are convinced that this will not affect their own economic situation. Half of the respondents think that their economic situation will not get worse and will stagnate in the coming year. One fifth of the total thinks that their situation will improve and 27% expect that it will get worse. Consumers’ behavior is also not expected to change because the majority thinks that their financial situation will remain primarily stable. Nearly half of the respondents (48%) believe that people will continue to spend and go into debt in the same extent. This opinion prevails particularly among younger respondents. On the contrary 38%, believe that people will start saving more. This group consists mostly of older people.
